Sequel disliked by many, only appreciated by fans

I was excited for this movie as soon as the credits of the first installment rolled onto the screen. I’m a fan of these superhero movies that have become box-office hits, and couldn’t wait to check this one out.

Peter Parker is back as the witty superhero we all love with his girlfriend Gwen Stacy by his side. Peter continues his search for information regarding his parents’ disappearance as he faces Electro, a shy man who suffered an accident transforming him into an electric man.

Overall, most scenes were action-packed and entertaining, and best of all Andrew Garfield was wearing a spandex suit. While I truly enjoyed the movie as a whole, it left me confused with its rushed introductions of characters and multiple sub-plots.

I understand the basic concept and storyline of the Spider-Man comics, so I knew that Peter Parker’s best friend was Harry Osborn. But for those who weren’t aware, the way he appeared in the movie must have been extremely confusing. He arrives in time to say goodbye to his dying father and immediately after we learn that he and Peter used to be best friends when they were children.

In addition, there are far too many villains. Electro would have been enough for me! He was built up for the first half of the movie, only to be defeated in about a minute. They could have prolonged his death, or created more of a struggle for Spider-Man, who never seems to have much trouble at all.

Peter’s friend Harry immediately swoops in as the Green Goblin, a villain that I believe deserves his own movie. Although he doesn’t die, which foreshadows his role in the next installment, his appearance lasted for only a few minutes and seemed quite pointless.

Then there’s Rhino. He starts off as the movie-opening villain and then, BAM, he’s a part of Harry’s new crew of hit men who wear super high-tech gear that has been stored in the basement of Oscorp. Confusing? Yes.
While this movie wasn’t my favorite for these reasons, it had funny jokes and strong characters. It may not have been one of the best superhero movies out there, but it was far from the worst.
