Pooley’s Pumpkin Patch provides enjoyment for all

Pooley’s pumpkin patch out west proves more than just small business

Fall season brings about various activities—ranging from activities such as going to haunted houses to even simply taking a walk around the park to take in the beautiful sights of the trees changing color.

One annual tradition in my family is going to a location near 120th and Military, a small farm that is tucked away and is home to a field full of pumpkins waiting to be taken home for cheap prices. I give Pooley’s pumpkin patch an eight out of a possible ten for the fact that the location is inconvenient to many.

Hundreds of people pile into this small farm to create memories with their family and ignite a tradition that will be with their children forever. Even though the concept is small, going into the field, picking out pumpkins and purchasing them is one of my favorite activities to do and is something I look forwards to in the fall season.

The pumpkins are inexpensive and are a variety of different colors, sizes and shapes. Ranging from white pumpkins to small gourds, they have a lot to offer. Out by the Dundee area, and areas located near Central, there is not much open land or opportunities for families to go out and spend quality time with each other in a pumpkin patch. Yes, there is Vala’s Pumpkin Patch, but it is not quite the same as this small farm out in west Omaha.

Nothing can be compared to this experience, and I thoroughly encourage each and every student to convince his or her family to take a trip out west and visit this pumpkin patch.

The owners of this farm are an older couple, and each year they welcome more and more people into their quaint farm.

It is hard to describe the benefits of visiting this pumpkin patch that for many is not in existence, but all in all, it gives kids an experience that nowadays many take for granted.

It is an opportunity for children to take a break from their phones and Twitter feed and stop for once to take in the beauty of the countryside and value the importance of family. I feel that many take this for granted and never stop to look at what is passing them by in life.

It is the simple things in life that people will look on when they are older, and this is simply one of them. This farm is nothing special on the outside, but to a family, and to mine, it means everything. So next weekend, instead of going out with some friends, take some time to drive out west with your family and pick out some festive decorations for the fall season. Even suggest it to your parents—it may take them by surprise.
