How to stay off trend

October 1, 2019

Browsing through the internet as a fashion-lover can pose far too many risks and underlying baits. By using cookies, websites and apps can lead an unsuspecting user into a trap, formally known as “The Basic Girl Flow.” Once entered, this simulation of seashell necklaces, Vans and Champion hoodies may be impossible to escape. For the safety and wellbeing of fashion risk-takers, there is a new trend to stay aware of: how to stay off trend.

Although being unique sounds somewhat faultless, how is it possible to go about wearing clothes considered “off-trend” while also remaining socially acceptable in the demographic of Central High students?

One way to stay ahead of the Basic Girl Flow is to shop the runway. Runway? As in Paris? New York? That is completely unaffordable! Yes, shopping directly off 23inch waists may be particularly difficult, but there is always a way around the money and measurements. A sneaky way to snag the oddest fashion is to purchase garments straight off the runway at Omaha Fashion Week. With OFW being the fourth-largest fashion event in the United States, hundreds of foreign, famous designers are flying in to appeal to a new audience. That audience is the students with bravado at Central High.

A different course of action is to expand your mindset outside of the limitations of Omaha. When on vacation, it is critical to explore the fashion aspect of the unknown area. Whether it is a new take on a chain store, a local boutique or the region’s thrift stores, there is always a new find waiting just minutes away.

Throw on those low-waisted jeans that have been hanging in your dad’s closet since birth! The simplest, easiest way to successfully stay off-trend is to wear what is ugly. When wearing something partially repulsive paired with something funky, a certain level of style confidence is unleashed. Heads turn; students passing by are hit with the rubberneck and all is well.

Harsh truth hurts. It is possible to carry out these steps and still not find that level of individuality to be set apart from the rest. Everyone has an internal desire to be different than those around them. However, if everybody was different, nobody would be different. Even if it’s slight, always remember to stay off-trend.
