Top Halloween movies

October 16, 2020

Halloween is right around the corner, and this year’s festivities will look very different with COVID-19 still around. While parties may be out of the question, there isn’t any holiday you can’t celebrate with some popcorn and good movies. If you’re looking for some Halloween movie inspiration, here’s a list of some of my (family friendly) favorites.

“Twitches” is a must-watch to get into the Halloween spirit. A Disney Channel Original, this movie centers around two long-lost twin sisters who discover they have magical powers and are called on to defend their homeland. It’s nostalgia-inducing and a charming flick.

Next up is a classic- “Ghostbusters”. This movie about four men protecting New York City from ghosts is full of comedy and is perfect for a spookier movie night. Marshmallows would be the perfect snack to accompany this film.

No one can forget about “Coraline”, the movie that all freaked us out as children. Eerie and a beautiful stop-motion picture, a young girl battles with the decision to stay in a dream-like world or reality, but not everything is as it seems. Rewatching this movie and remembering the chills it gave you when you were younger would be a perfect way to spend Halloween night.

“Hocus Pocus” is another classic that you need to have on your watchlist. A boy accidentally releases 3 witches on the night of Halloween, and with the help of his sister, a friend, and a black cat, must try to stop them from devouring all the children’s spirits in Salem. This film screams Halloween and really needs no explanation as to why you should watch it. With stars like Bette Midler, you can’t go wrong.

Lastly, another Disney Channel Original Movie, is “Halloweentown”. A young girl discovers she’s a witch, along with her grandma, and must fight against dark forces to protect Halloweentown. Another nostalgia-inducing flick, this movie would be perfect to watch with younger siblings or other friends.

These movies and a lot more (“Beetlejuice”,” Monster House”) would make for a wonderful Halloween night at home- just don’t forget the treats!
