The truth and lies of astrology

August 26, 2021

Zodiac signs, horoscopes and predicting the future are just a few aspects of astrology that make it such an interesting but controversial topic. Whether or not a person believes in it can say a lot about them and possibly reveal how close minded or naïve they are. No matter how much you trust or disregard astrological ideas, it is important to be able to tell what is real and what is made up for media and pop culture. Once the truth is separated from the lies, even the most stubborn non-believers might find themselves looking into their star sign or even checking the love compatibility they have with their crush. It is useful to first understand why parts of astrology are made up or exaggerated in the first place.

Recently, there has been a rise in popularity of astrology, and it has become trendy among younger generations. Just because many aspects of astrology have become trends does not automatically make it untrustworthy or untruthful, but it can add to the misinformation being spread. For example, it is common for people to make astrology accounts on social media for the sole purpose of getting likes or views. They make up general statements about each zodiac sign and give advice by telling them exactly what they want to hear. While these posts are not so different from a horoscope in a newspaper, they are more catered to social media trends. A usual post from one of these accounts might claim that liking or sharing the post will increase a certain sign’s chances of finding love, or any other positive thing they want in life. It is important to be able to identify these trends and understand that they are meant as lighthearted entertainment instead of wisdom you should live your life by.

Usually, the more credible astrological ideas are the ones that have been talked about and used by astrologists for decades. This includes well-known concepts like the 12 zodiac signs, birth charts, and a variety of spiritual practices such as tarot cards and manifestation. It is easy to research and find useful information within these ideas, but particularly important to know the history and cultural significance surrounding the spiritual practices if choosing to partake in them. Overall, there are endless ways to expand your belief in astrology if you have the desire to do so.

The best thing about astrology is being able to choose to believe however much or little you want to believe in. The realest aspects are those which allow you to feel connection and self- identification. At the end of the day, there is no point in debating what is real or fake within the world of astrology. There is no point in putting others down for believing in it or trying to convince someone of its legitimacy if they do not need to be convinced. Simply, there is no point in trying to nitpick the misinformation and lies, because astrology is for those who find truth in it.
