Amaya Garrett soccer star

May 3, 2022

Amaya Garrett is the left center back for the Central girls soccer team. This junior is a critical player for the team and provides them with support and strength on and off the field.

Garrett has given back to the program at Central as much as it has given her. She is a captain and a starter. A hard worker and a logical thinker only begin to describe her work on defense.

Her position on the team has brought her confidence. She has not always played defense, but she describes her new role as “eye opening.” It taught new qualities of the game she was unaware of.

She plays simply because she loves it and appreciates everything it has granted her. “I’ve met the most amazing people through the sport,” Garrett said.

Central’s team is special to Garrett. Her reasoning: school spirit. The fans behind the team make Garrett proud. “I love getting to be a part of something that’s for my school,” Garrett said.

To her, the team makes the training, the hard days, and all the work worth it.

“It does not matter if it’s high school or club, I love being surrounded by people who love the game as much as I do,” Garrett said.

She describes the friendship she shares with her teammates as a “connection.” They gain that connection through playing the game.

Playing soccer since she was three years old, she is going to continue in college. Her options are open, and she is still finalizing her decision. “I love the sport and can’t imagine my life without it,” Garrett said.

She has chosen soccer, and it has chosen her back. She has decided to stick with it throughout the years because of every chance it gives her.

“Each year I play, I have new experiences, meet new people, and learn more things about the game,” Garrett said.

She works hard for the team every day, whether it is a game or practice. A shining star in Central soccer history, Garrett makes everyone proud.
