With an average of nine runs a game, the softball team’s offense is proving itself as a powerhouse.
The team is currently 9-8 with a batting average of .385.
Whether it’s getting on base or running bases, senior Ada Jantzen has proved to be an offensive weapon, scoring 20 runs and a .457 batting average.
“I think that my biggest success this year has been using my speed to get extra bases on my hits while beating out routine ground balls for a single,” Jantzen said. Jantzen is an asset on the basepaths with five stolen bases, second on the team to Nichole Palfini and Edie Titus, who each have seven.
Nicole Palfini has the most runs with 25 and hits with 23, she also leads the team in doubles with seven. Edie Titus also has an impressive stat line with a .407 average, earning her 22 hits and has scored 18 runs.
Players also spoke highly of their coach Tash Coffiel, with Jantzen saying, “The work ethic Coach Tash instilled into the program is really great for leadership development and getting to work physically and mentally.”
Coffiel talked about their work ethic saying, “We value hard work and accountability in athletics as well as in the classroom.”
“This year’s team is made up most of underclassmen,” Titus said. “The upperclassmen on the team are striving to break the stereotype of demeaning younger teammates,” Jantzen said. “I want to make our underclassmen better athletes and better students, so it’s been great to work with each of them.”
Both Jantzen and Titus say they, as seniors, have been very supportive of underclassmen. “My expectations for the seniors as leaders for the young players is to set the tone,” Coffiel said.
