Well-known artist Bruno Mars released his new album Feb.27, titled “The Romantic.” This is his first solo album since 2016. With the help of a familiar crew of co-writers and producers likeBrody Brown, Philip Lawrence, James Fauntleroy and D’Mile.
His last solo album “24K Magic” was released almost a decade ago, and it now has 7.7 billion streams on Spotify. To say the expectations were high was an understatement.
The album has nine songs that truly fit Mars’ discography. When I first listened to the album, the first thought that crossed my mind was how Mars can truly do it all.
“Risk It All” is an incredibly romantic song, very slow and vocally based. It has a very Latin pop sound with the beginning and chorus having a salsa or light mariachi sound to them. The lyrics are very touching and the way he sings expresses the meaning behind them very well.
“Cha Cha Cha” begins with a jazz mix, with backup vocals that complement the main vocals. It is a very beautiful beat that gets complimented by the maracas. It’s more upbeat than the last track but still subtle. Near the end, the beat increases and becomes more of a danceable song, and the vocals are always still beautiful with harmonies mixed in.
“I just might” is much more upbeat compared to past tracks. It is a more danceable song with more upbeat instruments; this album started from calm to now energetic. Including a solo for his vocals while the beat slows down truly emphasizes the power behind his vocals.
“Something Serious” has a very contagious beat that everyone can clap their hands too. The spotlight on the vocals shows how big of a role it plays to the song, starting to get more upbeat rather than a clapping hands beat. The song has a beautiful way to use the silent part and shows “Something Serious” truly proves how well Bruno can focus on both his vocals and theinstrumentals of his music, almost like an early Elvis Presley song.
“Dance With Me” starts with very powerful vocals, almost like a final ending to a book. It has a super slow beat compared to previous tracks, although the vocals are making up for it. It’s a beautiful goodbye song with two beautiful meanings. The meaning of not wanting the album to end and also not wanting the relationship to end. He’s almost apologetic yet understandinghis lovers’ decisions; vocals are incredibly focused on in this song.
