Senior leaders Paul Brannen and Tessa Fershee are excited for the upcoming student section for the winter season of basketball games, and Fershee is planning some of the student section themes and to bring energy to the games.
The first home games will be on Dec. 12, and both the girls and boys are playing Millard South.
In the student section at the basketball games, it is a more confined area to cheer in. Compared to the football games, the basketball bleachers where the students will be standing are smaller. With such a small space and it being right next to the players, it will be packed in and extremely loud.
“It is a lot closer, it is a harder chance of winning, and a lot of screaming. You’re right next to the players, right next to the board. It is exciting,” Brannen said.
Themes are a big part of what make the student section enjoyable for the students. Students at Central High School are working on themes for this basketball season that is coming up. The people who had planned the football themes have now had time to see which of those had the best results.
Fershee said in an interview, “Themes will be similar to ones from the football games, but still a little different. We will be meeting to discuss the themes we want to do for the games.”
Brannen said, “I am hearing that themes for the basketball games may be more fun. We got a little trial and error with the football games.”
Brannen expects attendance for the basketball games to be similar to the attendance during the football games. One reason he expects this is because it will not be as cold. Since it was freezing toward the end of the football season, attendance decreased very quickly, but basketball is inside and the weather is not as much of an issue.
“I hope, I think, as many people should come to the games as there were at the football games,” Brannen said.
