The 2025 Central bowling team has high hopes for their bowlers this year.
Gerald Kreber, a teacher at Central High School and the head bowling coach, said some of his bowlers competed in a summer bowling league and did pretty well, making him optimistic about the upcoming season.
The team is looking to expand their varsity team this season, and Kreber said a good bowler is usually patient and calm. Kreber said he loves being the bowling coach and spending time with the kids on the team.
“Even if you’re an amateur bowler, it’s easy to learn,” Kreber said. Assistant bowling coach Brent Larson said one goal for the season is for the bowlers to make it to the state tournament for team bowling tournaments and individual tournaments.
“Ultimately, our goal for the season is to build strong teams on both the boys and girls side where all of our athletes have a chance to compete and that they grow and improve in their games,” Larson said
“Bowling is a great sport and is easy to learn with some practice,” Larson said, and the coaches would like to push their players past a recreational mindset. They have to adjust to the team setting by trying harder and working with their teammates. Student bowlers also adjust to different conditions in bowling such as the lane condition, where to approach, and what to aim at making each competition a new experience to learn and improve their skills.
Larson likes many different sports and loves coaching the bowling team. His favorite part is the competition and how every sport requires a different skill set, and he wants to help his players have the right ones to be successful.
