A new season of Eagles girls basketball has begun, and there are only a few upperclassmen on the team. From last year many of the seniors graduated, meaning more space for lowerclassmen to step up their game.
Central is up and ready for the new season. This season is about the new players introduced on the team. Central is preparing to go up against all rival schools.
Head coach Nichole Mitchell said basketball gives the players more opportunities to be both competitive and social.
“Joining the team isn’t 100% about being competitive, but it’s for you to grow as a person, meaning you’re completing your personal goals that you’ve made for life,” Mitchell said.
The slogan for the team is “We Are One.” The slogan shows the team’s goal, perseverance and energy matter to all players of the team, and new people on the team means adapting.
“Getting good at the game isn’t what it’s all about here at Central, but it’s about sisterhood and getting comfortable with the newly introduced sisters of the team,“ sophomore Zoie Johnson said.
Due to the team having many new players, nobody knows the team’s abilities. Noelle Tcheuhchoua scored over 24 points overall for the season last year but is not on the team this season.
The best player that is making a comeback with Central Eagles’ strong approach is Reality Mapp, who had limited time as a freshmen last season. She scored 13 points for the Eagles in the team’s season opening win over Burke and averages 11.3 points through Dec. 11. Freshmen Hadley Anderson is averaging 7.3 points and five rebounds so far.
