As a kid, whether you grew up in the 2000s or the 2010’s, you watched John Cena dominate the wrestling world. Through all story lines he always found a way to either come out on top or show us there is always a road to being the best you can be. We watched him achieve an immense amount of success as an on-screen character.
He has the most world champions in WWE history and is a grand slam champion. Outside of wrestling, he was the most genuine and generous human being we could look up to. Cena has granted over 650 wishes to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. That is the most by anybody.
Watching Cena’s entrance, he waves a towel reading “Never Give Up.” As much as it translates to his wrestling character, it’s a symbol to all of his fans to keep going no matter the circumstances. He waves this towel every entrance he has.
Cena is not only the best professional wrestler of all time, an international super star, a successful Hollywood actor and even a platinum selling music artist, but to many people, he is a real-life superhero. He influenced lives.
“I thought he was a real-life superhero. He was someone that gave people confidence.” said fellow teen wrestling fan Jake Bell. “The reason we can see him as a real-life superhero is because he would always be the one take down the wrestlers we saw as villains.”
Almost like he was thrown into boss fights and came out alive each time.
On July 6, 2024, Cena announced to the world his retirement tour from the WWE, and we knew we would never see the legend wrestle again soon. But we had one last chance to watch Cena. This tour included story lines that took people down memory lane, facing his career rivals that include CM Punk, Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and teaming with Rey Mysterio.
Some may say the tour was underwhelming due to match quality and how some of the tour felt rushed, not getting the most out of every appearance. But without it, thousands of people would not have seen Cena live for the first or last time in their life. When we see the last match of his career on Dec 13, a tear will be shed.
