Sophomore Isaiah Tuttle leads the Central boys varsity wrestling team with a record of 26-5, and a total of 127.5 points for the 25-26 season.
Tuttle, who goes by “Ace,” started wrestling at 8 years old. He plays football and wrestles, both of which he chose to stick with. In addition to school wrestling, Tuttle wrestles all year round at MWC Nebraska club wrestling.
Leading the team isn’t just a new occurrence for Tuttle. As a freshman he beat a Central record of most continuous wins, and a record of 40-8, with 32 of those matches being falls.
Tuttle works hard outside practice as well, to grow even more as an athlete. From sprints to weightlifting weekly, he has a disciplined mindset to get stronger mentally and physically.
“I just enjoy it. I enjoy it as a sport. I enjoy doing it,” Tuttle said about what he loves about wrestling.
The thought of being a three-time state champion leads Tuttle to work hard during practice.
Being a team leader comes with hard struggles as well. Mentally and physically Tuttle has to continue to keep a strong mindset for wrestling. He says he tries not to overthink too much or over analyze his opponent when going into a match.
“Weight cutting, and being there for everyone, you know it kind of sucks letting people down sometimes.” Tuttle said. Expectations from coaches and wanting to be a three-time champion are all motivators for Tuttle and his hard work ethics.
